PLEASE READ..... I am a local business owner in Marshall too, and the last thing I want to do is discourage local business. I have been in business for 25 yrs and I know how importance these ratings are, so please understand I am testifying to my experience only. 2 weeks ago I called Caron service to drop off my chevy Silverado duramax diesel with a blown break line and bad ignition switch. They asked me to drop off my truck Tuesday so I had it towed on Monday. ( I explained this is my work truck and needed it back ASAP so if you are busy please let me know and I’ll make other arrangements ) Wednesday went by no call, Thursday went by no call, finally Friday mid day they called me and said All of my break lines were rusted and Needed to be replaced and that the ignition switch was out of time and needed replaced. The estimate $2500.00. I was a little set back by that and told them I would think about it and call them back. I got on line and quoted new break lines, calipers ( they said they quoted worst case scenario expecting bleeder screws to break off requiring new break calipers) and ignition switch. Without sparing expense the break lines were $125.00, calipers were $57 each and ignition switch $32.00. So my math tells me worst case scenario I’m $ 400.00 in parts. So why $2,100.00 in labor. So I called them back. Courtney ( very polite and understanding) explained that’s just what the mechanic turned in as an estimate. I asked her if she could please just have the mechanic repair the break line and fix the ignition switch ( thinking this was an easy fix, after all it just plugs in. No bolts, or tools needed ) she explained that after taking to the mechanic and service manager they both refused to repair the break line because of liability issues. She said she would work with me on cost because by this time they had already had my truck a week. I asked her to please advise the mechanic to spray the bleeder screws with penitrating oil over the weekend so they would break loose. I did not hear from them again until The following Friday. Courtney explained that the supplier had delivered the wrong break lines and that the mechanic had installed them only to find out one side was too short and one side was to long. ( no kidding ). So now they were starting all over. A few days later I called asking about progress, she explained to me that the mechanic was bouncing back and fourth between several vehicles trying to get them done. The following Monday Courtney called me to tell me my truck was done and that she was working on my invoice etc. I showed up at 9 am the next morning to pick up the truck. She handed me an invoice for flipping $1972.00. This included a 10% discount. The mechanic broke 2 break caliper bleeder screws which had to be replaced. Just the charge for the $30 ignition switch was $441.00 to replace. It took me and my son less than 5 minutes to pull it and inspect it before I took it in. So why $ 400.00 in labor. The breaks only cost $ 350.00 in parts so why $1,181.00 in labor. My buddy replaced his own in 3 hrs in his garage. If it had not been for the ignition switch I would have done this work myself and spent $400.00. Believe me, I’m all for making a profit, but come on. So I paid what I calculate to be $441.00 per hr for what should have taken 4 hrs of work. For $441.00 per hr, I expect oil change time not 12 days because the mechanic is bouncing back and fourth trying to keep up,prices. Not $1972.00 and 12 days. Did I mention I have purchased 3 new cars from Caron in the last 4 yrs. a new chevy cruise, an exquinox and a sonic. Last check I write Caron. Ever......... I dont mind paying for good service when I receive it. This was beyond joke material. By the way, I had to bleed the breaks again because the pedal went to the floor. Tons of air in lines. I’ll do my own work from here thanks.
